We organised International Culture Day to celebrate the diversity that exists within the TFA community and beyond. We sought to deepen our social awareness and understanding of the world by celebrating the cultural richness of the world, fostering a climate of inclusion and mutual-respect in our community. All week our teachers have been delivering lessons which spotlight culture within their curriculum, be it local or international, and our pupils have thoroughly enjoyed this focus.
We wanted our pupils to be immersed in culture all day and they were encouraged to wear traditional dress which brought the day to life as pupils wore what they felt proud and stylish in.
In the morning, tutors delivered a Personal Development session on international culture, where we focused on what ‘culture’ means to them. They had interesting discussions about the ideas, customs and social behaviour of British people and other societies.
In the afternoon we hosted our community event where staff and pupils welcomed our parents, local primary families and Redbridge borough representatives. It was a vibrant, entertaining and fun event with something for everyone from flag decorating, to mehndi and face painting, art exhibition, musical showcases and games and quizzes. The icing on the cake was the International Bake-off and the judges will agree that talent our pupils demonstrated was incredible, the winners were Fatema Jesmi 12R , Maria Nasir 7R, Lilly Taylor 7E, TEAM Nathan Lee, Hari Patel and Charlie Cohen Year 7, TEAM Joshua Hulea, Dawid, Luke Paddon Year 7.
Thank you to everyone who put so much hard work into making the day extra special for all those who attended. Pupils, staff and parents commented on how they felt part of a beautiful and diverse community . The event was a resounding success and it was wonderful to see everyone enjoy the sunny afternoon and needless to say this event will remain on our calendar for 2023 and will return bigger and better!
